Meet our Trustees

Tom Gilvear - Chairman

I joined Shopmobility Basingstoke as a volunteer after taking early retirement from the engineering and electronics industry in 2008. Wanting to occupy my spare time I felt I had something to offer with my experience of electric vehicles. I soon became aware of how important this facility was to those with mobility issues, and became more involved in the day to day running of Shopmobility. Within a few years I became a Trustee, and soon after that invited to become Chairman. Although all these roles are voluntary and unpaid, I enjoy working with a great team, and meeting so many customers, who despite their lack of mobility, always seem to have a smile on their face.

I really do have the best of both worlds – working with nice people, meeting such nice people, and assisting those in need.

Anne Gray

I have personal experience of disability and know how valuable the Shopmobility service is to people with walking difficulties. My Mum was unable to walk far as she got older, but the Shopmobility service meant she could remain independent and go shopping without having to rely on friends and family. Without the service, Mum would have been housebound. As a Trustee I hope I will be able to contribute towards helping Shopmobility grow and develop to meet future needs.

Tony Burch

I have supported Shopmobility from its early days, both personally and through my involvement with local business and the Chamber of Commerce. I was asked if I would like to be involved with the Fundraising Group. From there I started working as a volunteer one day per week, and then joined the board as a Trustee in 2011. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of Shopmobility Basingstoke.

David Ashcroft

I have been supporting a number of charities and schools since taking early retirement from a post in engineering at a major communications company. A former trustee asked if I would be interested in joining the Shopmobility Board. I sat in on several meetings and very quickly realised the importance of the work that Shopmobility carries out. I am very proud to be part of the team that provides the opportunity for people of all ages with limited mobility to play an active role in society.
